A new website has recently been launched, specifically for international staff who are relocating to the UK to work in a Higher Education Institution.
http://www.internationalstaff.ac.uk/
The site was created by the University of Leeds, but the information is just as relevant to staff joining the University of St Andrews.
The web-site gives advice about almost everything - from registering with a dentist to childcare to culture shock.
The A-Z index is here: http://www.internationalstaff.ac.uk/azinfo.php
If you are looking for information about the University’s relocation policy, you can find that here: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/staff/policy/removalrelocationexpenses/
(If any member of staff wishes to claim removal costs please contact MS Shona Millard, Payroll and Pensions Manager email sm74@st-andrews.ac.uk before the expenditure is incurred.)
There is also a ‘Talent Scotland’ website which has a lot of information about moving to Scotland: http://www.talentscotland.com/Workers.aspx
Further information about the National Health Service in Fife (NHS) can be found here: Fife info
St Andrews is proud to have staff members from over 50 different countries. These International Staff had to relocate to Scotland too, and some of them are very happy to act as volunteers to provide help and advice and share their experiences with you.
In 2008 the International Staff Register was launched. In the coming months the register should grow and represent more countries. In the meantime, if you wish to contact a fellow National about relocating to Scotland and St Andrews, please send them an e-mail. Whether you want to talk about settling into new surroundings, dealing with cultural differences or creating a social network, they’ll be pleased to hear from you.
