Avalon

"Once Upon A Time..."

In Celtic Mythology Avalon was an isle of enchantment, taking its name from the demi-god 'Avalloc' or 'Avallach' who ruled the underworld. Ancient myth has it that Avalon was the meeting place of the dead; the point where they passed to another level of existence. At its entrance is the home of Gwyn ap Nudd, the Lord of the Underworld, and a place where the fairy folk lived.
Household Avalon is primarily a sanctuary for any travellers in the Shire who require shelter and safe-keeping and our general household events are open to anyone who wishes to attend. We also exist essentially for those whose knowledge of the Middle Ages is limited but to those who want to indulge in the romanticism of the period.
We are a household diverse in characters : ranging from pirates to alchemists to court jesters - but united by a passion for the myths and legends of the Middle Ages and the Ancient world. Rather than being a household focussed on one particular period or culture of the Middle Ages, we aim to allow our members the freedom to specialise in whatever area they are individually interested in, while coming together to share tales, indulge in themed events and generally have a good time.
Honour, friendship and respect are key to our ethos and an insult to any one of our members will be equally felt by all. We value knowledge above all and we hope soon to establish a 'Library of Avalon', filling it with knowledge and information provided by each member
There are two types of membership: Guest membership allows you to attend our general household events and contribute to the Library. Full membership is upon completion of initiation and brings with it far greater responsibility.
