Welcome to Breakaway

Greetings and welcome to the Breakaway website. The site for St Andrews University Hill Walking Club. Be you a "Munro Bagger" or someone who wants to see Scotland at a more leisurely pace, the Breakaway Club is for you!

On every trip there are suitable walks for all abilities, regardless of experience. We go into the remote and beautiful Scottish countryside for both day and weekend trips. And with an ever extending social calendar, Breakaway really is your key to the hills and all that they concern...

Upcoming Events

1) On the evening of Monday 13th February (In 2 days), we will be holding our annual general meeting, at which a new committee will be elected. The available positions are:

President [society manager]

Vice President [transport organiser]

Secretary [takes minutes, books hostels]

Treasurer [bank account, cash box, other money matters]

Social Representative [organises social events]

Kit Officer [stores and maintains breakaway equipment]

Publicity Officer [makes posters and membership cards]

Ball Convener [organises Adrenaline Ball]

Webmaster [updates website and mailing list]

Ordinary Member (x2) [extra help]

If you would like to stand for one (or more) of these, you will be asked to give a short (2 minutes or so) speech about yourself and why you would be good for the chosen position. If you would like more information about a particular job, feel free to email the current relevant committee member (email addresses here).

The exact time and venue will be confirmed soon, but keep that evening free and come along to vote, ask questions and compete for your chance to have a say in the future running of Breakaway! No doubt there will be celebrations and comiserations in a pub afterwards, so it promises to be a fun night.

2) We have a day trip to Glen Clova on Saturday 11th Feb (Today), so if you fancy a walk in a beautiful spot in the south-east of the Cairngorms National Park, come along and sign up on Wednesday 8th Feb, 7pm on the top floor of the union. The cost is £10 as usual.

Come and see us at the Whey Pat next Monday (6th Feb (Already past)) at 9pm if you have any questions - it will be a great chance to learn more about some of the positions on committee.

If you sign up but have to drop out, please contact Breakaway immediately as there will be no refund unless we can find a replacement. If you turn up late for a walk, no refund will be given.
