The doctoral
workshop at the St Andrews conference builds upon the success
and format of previous editions; but offers a number of additional
features and benefits:
The 2004
British Academy of Management (BAM) conference at the University
of St Andrews will host a pre-conference doctoral workshop to
be on 30 August. The doctoral workshop is the premier event in
doctoral training in business and management within the United
Kingdom. Previous editions have been hugely popular with doctoral
students; featuring presentations from top academic speakers and
intensive, small seminar group discussions of students' individual
research projects.
·
Workshops on methodologies and methodological issues in business
and management research. These workshops will include advanced-level
presentations on systematic literature review, discourse analysis,
scaling and measurement, and structural equation modelling; delivered
by academic leaders in each of these fields.
· Plenary sessions on getting published, the PhD process
and on academic careers in business and management.
· Small seminar group discussions of students work ('research
conversations' sessions). Students can choose to present their
work in thematically grouped seminars, and will receive specific
feedback on it.
· The small seminar group discussions will be facilitated
by fellows of the Advanced Institute of Management (AIM) and other
senior members of the academic community.
· Doctoral students participating in the symposium are
encouraged to become members of the British Academy of Management.
As a member, you receive the British Journal of Management and
the International Journal of Management Reviews for free.
· The ESRC endorses and sponsors the symposium and has
made 50 bursaries available for full-time PhD students attending
the event. These bursaries are allocated on a first come, first
served basis. 4 August: Bursary
details here.
The symposium will commence
with a dinner on the Sunday night followed by a full day of small
seminar group work interspersed with presentations from leading
academics on aspects of doctoral research study. Doctoral students
needing to stay overnight will be accommodated. The doctoral conference
is for bona fide doctoral students who wish to receive feedback
on their work and learn from experienced researchers in a number
of management disciplines.
