Ladder Safety

The misuse of ladders can cause serious accidents, some of which can result in fatalities.

Action by Heads

Heads should ensure that:

• Staff using ladders are provided with appropriate training;
• The School/Unit implements the guidance for the safe use of ladders;
• Appropriate storage facilities for ladders are provided;
• An annual inspection of ladders is performed and that records of such inspections are kept.

It is expected that Heads of Schools/Units will take account of the following guidance and ensure that relevant control measures necessary for health and safety are implemented.
