Night buses for St Andrews and Dundee

Staff and students of the University of St Andrews can use the St Andrews night bus and the Stagecoach late evening service.

St Andrews night bus

Staff and students can use the free University night bus. You must show your staff or student ID card to the driver.

The St Andrews night bus goes from the main University Library around St Andrews, returning to the main Library. Locations and pick-up times are listed below. The last Library time is drop-off only.

You cannot take food or drink onto the night bus, however, drivers are reporting that users are bringing hot food and sometimes alcohol onto the bus. Passengers who try to bring food and drink onto the bus, or behave antisocially in any way, may be refused entry to the bus and will be referred by the driver to the University’s Security and Response team.

Please be aware, due to unforeseen circumstances outside the driver's control, timings and routes may be affected and, occasionally, a bus may have to be cancelled at short notice.

When is the St Andrews night bus available?

This service is available Monday to Sunday.

Semester 1

Starts: Saturday 5 September 2026
Ends: Friday 18 December 2026

Semester 2

Starts: Monday 25 January 2027
Ends: Friday 21 May 2027

Service is not available during vacation week, from Saturday 27 February to Sunday 7 March 2027.

Stagecoach late evening service and timetable

Local bus company Stagecoach provides a late evening service between Dundee and St Andrews during the week that University students and staff can use for free by showing a University ID card.

The subsidised service runs from Monday to Thursday during term time, from Monday 25 January 2027 until Friday 21 May 2027. This service will not be available between Saturday 27 February and Sunday 7 March 2027, during vacation week.

Stagecoach's existing late services will continue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The 99 bus is available free to staff and students from Monday to Thursday during term-time until further notice.

Only the services listed on the downloadable timetable under 'USTA' are complimentary for staff and students with University ID cards.
