Research areas
Nima Naderi is a research fellow at the Synthetic Optics group, School of Physics & Astronomy, University of St Andrews, working on the 3D integrated photonic metamaterial platform for optical neural networks. His research interests include photonic crystals, device fabrication, nonlinear optics, and optoelectronics.
He completed his PhD in Photonics Materials and Devices at the University of Science Malaysia (USM). He won the USM doctoral fellowship, which sponsored his research on integrated photonics. Also, he won the Malaysian Hall of Fame award, which is awarded to researchers for their outstanding scientific publications. From 2022 to 2025, he was a senior lecturer at the Photonics Research Centre, University of Malaya.
In 2026, he joined the School of Physics & Astronomy, University of St Andrews, to work on the 3D Nanoscale Metamaterials Hub for a Sustainable Future, a UK-wide research collective focused on 3D nanoscale metamaterials, which has been highlighted as a key contributor to the UK’s Industrial Strategy released in 2025.
