Teaching

Prof Di Falco teaches the courses of Plasmonics and Metamaterials and Advanced Condensed Matter at Master level. He is currently the module coordinator for Physics 1. Locally he gives tutoring support, organises and marks the experimental activity and the exams. He is also a demonstrator for the Photonics Lab and responsible for the organisation of the lab tour activity within the Transferrable skills module.

Research areas

Andrea Di Falco is professor in nano-photonics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, at the University of St Andrews. In 2010 he was awarded a fellowship from EPSRC, to develop the concept of flexible metamaterials and plasmonics at visible wavelengths. In 2019 he was awarded a ERC Consolidator grant to develop biophotonic applications of optically trapped photonic membranes. His interests cover different areas of photonics, from metamaterials to photonic crystals and applications of nonlinear optics and biophotonics.
