Strategy
The environmental sustainability strategy outlines the University’s plan to achieve net zero by 2035 by reducing our emissions as much as possible and compensating for emissions that are unavoidable.
Golden Dandelion Awards
The Golden Dandelion Prize – named for the pioneering plant that is usually the first to flower in spring – is given each year to a module nominated to the Sustainability in the Curriculum Prize that fulfils the criteria of QAA’s guide on Education for Sustainable Development.
The 2024-25 Golden Dandelion Prize was won by Dr Laura Albertini of the School of Modern Languages' Department of Italian.
Laura won for the module IT3001 Italian Language 1 which she coordinates. The module was judged to be an excellent example of critical eco-pedagogy, where students are encouraged to discuss current sustainability issues in Italy, enhancing their capacity to express complex concepts in the language of Italian, and deepen understanding of culture, while stimulating action on the issues explored.
Advice and guidance
Students
There is advice for students wanting to know more about how sustainabaility is address in the curriculum at St Andrews and the ways in which they can get involved.
The University provides a student-created Moodle training course, Training in Environmental and Sustainable Action, which all students are required to complete.
Staff
There is advice for academic staff wanting to incorporate sustainability in the curriculum.
There are also opportunities to engage with sustainability through research.
