Research areas
Simon is an Associate Lecturer (Education Focused) in the School of International Relations. His research examines foreign terrorist fighters from two complementary angles. The first is an international institutional perspective on how the international community — particularly the United Nations and the UN Security Council — has responded and continues to respond to the phenomenon, situating the UNSC's response within the UN's wider response to terrorism more broadly. The second is an international law perspective focused on mechanisms for holding foreign terrorist fighters accountable for their actions.
