Accommodation

It can be challenging to find accommodation but there is information and advice on the Cologne accommodation webpage.

Cologne students can use the bistros and canteens of the Studierenwerk organisation. This offers a wide-range of dining options across the city.

Student services and orientation

The University of Cologne has a range of support services for international students.

The University of Cologne offers an orientation week, including a faculty-specific offer. There is also a buddy programme. In addition, it offers a free pre-semester language course in German, which starts four weeks before the beginning of the semester. This is an excellent chance to meet other students and improve your German.

The International student associations also organise events during Orientation week.

Finance and insurance

Living costs

In common with other German universities, all Cologne students and exchange students pay a Semester fee. This supports student services, university sports and gives you a free regional public transport ticket. Cologne's finance pages contain further information.
