Living there

Getting there and getting around

Students should fly to Beijing. RUC prefer for exchange students from each partner university arrive at the same time, so it may be worth co-coordinating flights with your fellow exchange student from St Andrews. Once you have your flight number and times, please inform the Renmin Study Abroad contact. Renmin will then arrange for someone to meet you at the airport.

Travelling around Beijing is quick and cheap using the Beijing subway. The network extensively covers the city and surrounding areas. There are two subway stations at the university - one on the east gate (Renmin University station), the other by the west gate (Suzhoujie Station). The Beijing subway is very user friendly with English signboards clearly visible.

Accommodation

Renmin's IR department aims to arrange on-campus accommodation for all exchange students who apply for it, but they cannot guarantee it. Renmin will inform you of the accommodation application procedure. Students should start the accommodation reservation as soon as they receive the admission packet.

Please note that St Andrews is unable to guarantee housing at any of our partner institutions. Guidance on finding accommodation abroad is available on the Global Office webpage.

Student services and orientation

Renmin's Student Services provide a range of support for exchange students.

Students that will be studying at Renmin University are eligible to apply for a means-tested British Council China Scholarship. Although this scholarship is funded by the British Council, it is administered by the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) and application materials must be both submitted online and sent via post to Beijing by the application deadline. Please see the Generation UK webpages for further information.

Please be aware that student support services will be different across all of our partner universities.
