Direct entry to second year Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry MChem (Hons) 2018 entry
It is possible for students applying for the Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry MChem single Integrated Masters degree to enter directly into the second year of study, meaning you will complete your degree in only four years instead of five.
This option is offered to students with excellent Advanced Higher, A-Level or International Baccalaureate qualifications.
Students who enter directly to second year will take modules required by the Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry MChem programme from second year on, along with an additional introductory module specifically designed for direct-entry students.
Direct entry students will have the opportunity to study abroad during their second year of study and to go on an external placement during the third year of study.

The following are likely grades considered for an offer. St Andrews considers all aspects of every application, including context, equivalent qualifications and the personal statement, and offers may be higher or lower than the grades stated here.
|SQA Highers and Advanced Highers||AB, including A in Chemistry, at Advanced Higher and AB in two other Highers from the following:
|GCE A-Levels||AAA, including A in Chemistry.|
|IB points||37, including HL6 in Chemistry.|
If English is not your first language you will need an overall IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking), or an equivalent English Language qualification.

Do I need to have studied this subject before?
Applicants must have studied Chemistry at SQA Advanced Highers, GCE A-Level, IB or equivalent. Preference may be given to candidates offering strong science qualifications.
Faculty entry requirements
You must also meet the Faculty of Science minimum qualifications. These vary depending on which qualifications you hold.
Passes in other examinations at equivalent levels and subjects may be accepted by the Dean of the Faculty. More information on how to apply via other entry routes or accreditation of prior learning and experience can be found on the University’s entry requirements webpage.
St Andrews students must meet with their advisor at the beginning of Semester 1 in September to complete advising – a compulsory part of the matriculation process. After module choices have been decided, a timetable will be allocated indicating the dates and times of classes.
