Scottish students

If you are a student who normally lives in Scotland, you are likely to have a fee status of Home (Scotland) and you may have your tuition fees paid by the Scottish Government. You may also be eligible for support through one or more of the University's scholarships and bursaries.

Tuition fees

As a student at the University of St Andrews, you will be expected to pay fees every year that you are in attendance. Fees may increase annually during the course of your study. The amount you will have to pay depends on the degree you are studying for and your fee status.

In 2025-2026 the tuition fee for this status was £1,820 and the fee for 2026-2027 will be published when it is confirmed by the Scottish Government.

Bursaries and scholarships

The University of St Andrews is committed to attracting the very best students regardless of their financial circumstances. We offer a large number of bursaries and scholarships to undergraduate students, and there are also a number of grants offered by organisations outside the University.

After you have applied to study at St Andrews, you can apply for scholarships and funding by logging into My Application. You will receive an email with information on how to access My Application where you will find 'My Scholarships and Funding'.

Student finance

Tuition fees may be paid for you by the Scottish Government provided you:

  • normally live in Scotland
  • are a full-time student
  • are taking your first degree

Tuition fees will be paid through the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).

You are eligible to apply for student loans, which are the main source of governmental support towards living costs. The level of entitlement depends on family income.

You may also be eligible for a bursary. Bursaries are non-repayable grants made available by the Scottish government to some students for living cost support.

Repayments on student loans for Scottish students will start after you graduate or leave university, provided you are earning over a certain threshold a year. You can find out more about repayments from the SAAS website.
