International Undergraduate Scholarships

Prospective students can apply for financial support towards their University or private accommodation costs in St Andrews. Awards worth £1,750 per annum are available for the duration of the undergraduate course, selection is means-tested and based on financial need.

In order to be eligible, applicants must be able to articulate a need for support through a personal financial statement. Students should refer to the "How to apply" section below for more information on household income.

Applicants must demonstrate a household income below the national average household income for your country of residence.

Details of the accommodation options provided by the University can be found under "Guide to Residences" on the accommodation website.

The award will be paid towards University accommodation fees in the first instance; students transferring to privately owned accommodation (including privately owned properties let through the University) will receive the award as monthly maintenance payments.

Value of award (per year)

£1,750 towards university accommodation (University halls or University managed accommodation)

Or

£1,750 towards private accommodation as maintenance. Maintenance is paid in ten monthly instalments directly to your bank account (BACS) from September to May, with a double payment in February.

This scholarship is paid annually for the duration of the undergraduate course.

At what stage of my course application can I apply for this scholarship?

You can apply for the scholarship after you have submitted your course application for a place at the University of St Andrews. You do not need to wait until you have received an offer of a place before applying for the scholarship.

Your course and funding application are not linked, applying for funding in no way impedes your course application decision.

Information for USA applicants

If you are including a Student Aid Report (SAR) with your scholarship application, please upload this in place of the household income evidence requested in the scholarship application form. To find out how to complete the FAFSA and receive your Student Aid Report, or for general information about US loans, please visit the Loans for US students webpages.

This copy of your student aid report is for your scholarship application only and will not be transferred to the University’s Finance Department for processing your loan application.

Household income will be assessed on below average country specific income rates, please convert your local currency to Pounds (GBP) and indicate the exchange rate used in the application. How to apply

This scholarship is available for application via the International Undergraduate scholarship through the scholarships and funding catalogue in the Scholarships and Funding section of My application.

After you have applied to a new course beginning in the academic year 2024, you will be provided with login details for the My application portal. You must allow at least two working days for processing and issue of your log in details before you can apply for this scholarship.

Terms and conditions

The student must be living in the UK and studying at the University of St Andrews to receive payment of this award, the award does not include periods of study not at the University of St Andrews.

If applying to this scholarship, please be aware of the following:

  • This scholarship is not transferable. If you defer the start date of your course you will need to apply again to the next academic year.
  • This scholarship does not include periods of time not spent at the University of St Andrews or leave of absence.
  • Distance learning (digital) courses are not eligible.

The outcome of your scholarship application will be available on 'View my applications' in the Scholarships and Funding section of My Application by mid March 2024.
