Mr Paul Gardner
Senior Lecturer
Biography
I left school at sixteen having attended a state comprehensive and worked as an apprentice in a coal mine for six years. I studied Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy at Sunderland University and then worked in mental health and some anti-racism research. I arrived at St. Andrews in 1992 on a short-term contract and became permanent three years later and have had a couple of promotions along the way.
Research areas
My main interests are in teaching research methods, theoretical issues in psychology, and in providing learning opportunities for skills development for undergraduate psychology students. I also have an interest in the development of critical reasoning skills. Outside of my formal teaching I spend a great deal of time with young people and other groups talking about the role of science in everyday life both the University and various science festivals.
