Progression to Honours Physics and Astronomy
As detailed in the Student handbook: Honours entry and the University policy on Entry to honours, students are required to achieve sufficient good grades in their 2000-level modules in order to receive an offer to progress into an Honours programme.
The University's Programme Requirements for the School of Physics and Astronomy lists the full details of all possible Honours combinations and the requirements for Honours entry.
Standard Honours Entry Conditions
BSc Honours Programmes
Passes in PH2011 and PH2012 and
Passes in MT2501 and MT2503.
Passes in AS2001/AS2101 for BSc in Astrophysics.
For joint degree programmes, there will be additional requirements from the other School.
Single Honours MPhys Programmes
Passes at mean grade 15 or better in PH2011 and PH2012.
Passes at mean grade 14 or better in MT2501 and MT2503 and a minimum of grade 11 in MT2501.
For the MPhys in Astrophysics, a passing grade in AS2001 or AS2101 is included in the calculated mean with PH2011 and PH2012.
MPhys Maths and Theoretical Physics Programmes

In most cases, a final decision by a student regarding choice of honours degree need not be made until the start of the third level or even later.
Students entering honours are expected to have 240 pre-honours credits (for accelerated-entry students 120 of these may be "advanced standing credits").
Those in the BSc honours cohort who achieve particularly well through JH and who wish to move to the MPhys cohort may be permitted to do so.
Students who fail to meet the requirements for entry to honours in their chosen degree programme are eligible to request a review of the decision. Please see the University policy on Requests for review of decision for entry to Honours.
