The following information outlines how to request an extension to a piece of assessment or a class test deferral if your studies are affected by exceptional circumstance as well as detailing assessment penalties used for modules in this School.

Please contact the module coordinator or the Schools Director of Teaching if you are unsure about member of staff concerned if you are unclear about the penalties associated with the late submission of any piece of assessed work.

Extension requests

If your ability to complete coursework has been significantly affected by extenuating circumstances you can request:

  1. An extension to a submission deadline.
  2. A deferral of a class test.

To do this:

  1. Complete the School's online extension request form.
  2. Submit a self-certificate explaining your circumstances.

Your request will reviewed by the School's extension committee and considered in line with the University's guidance on Coursework extensions. Information in the form may be shared with relevant staff in the University if appropriate.

Extensions should always be requested in advance of the coursework deadline, except in truly exceptional circumstances. The University's policy on extenuating circumstances gives examples of what does and does extenuating circumstance that may be considered.
