Light for Life – Physics & Astronomy annual industry day 2026

The industry day led by School of Physics & Astronomy this year was focused on 'Light for Life: Optical Innovations in Health Imaging, Sensing and Spectroscopy at the University of St Andrews’.

The day brought together ~80 attendees with a great mix of academics/researchers (from Schools of Physics & Astronomy, Medicine, Biology, and Business School) and specialists NHS professionals, businesses, funders and industry life sciences networks. The keynote by Dr Ewan Eadie (Head of Scientific Services for Photobiology and Optical Radiation, NHS Tayside) set the scene for the day and got the audience thinking about the meaning of light and different perspectives whether using light for wellbeing, treatment or causing harm.

The event was aimed at showcasing innovations from the University and businesses and providing insights into sector specific funding landscape aimed at fostering collaborations. Specific highlights included opportunities for attendees to network during extended lunch and as well as demos of University and industry innovations incl. Fujifilm Healthcare community diagnostic vehicle.
