Biophotonics Summer School 2026
During the last week of June, building on the success of the last two editions, the School of Physics and Astronomy hosted the third edition of the St Andrews Summer School in Biophotonics, a unique event allowing participants to engage in hands-on, sandpit-format tutorials in advanced biophotonics techiques. We offered 10 modules ranging from Optical Trapping for Mechanobiology to FRET Biosensing, from Expansion Microscopy to Raman Spectroscopy, showcasing some of the expertise of the St Andrews Biophotonics community, as well as hosting guest lectures from colleagues from Amsterdam, Cambridge and Genoa.
The School had 29 attendees, with 16 of them joining us from the rest of the UK or abroad. The organisers, Paolo Annibale and Carlos Penedo, would like to thank those colleagues from the School (Graham Bruce, Andrea Di Falco, Juan Varela), who helped run the practical modules this year, as well as the PhD students and PostDocs that engaged in supporting the practical demonstrations and contributed to the renewed success of this year event.
