2nd St Andrews Summer School in Biophotonics

26 June 2025

During the last week of June, after enthusiastic feedback following last year’s edition, the School of Physics and Astronomy hosted the second edition of the St Andrews Summer School in Biophotonics, a unique event allowing participants to engage in hands-on, sandpit-format tutorials in advanced biophotonics techiques. We offered 9 modules ranging from Optical Trapping for Mechanobiology to FRET Biosensing, from Confocal Microscopy to Raman Spectroscopy, showcasing some of the expertise of the St Andrews Biophotonics community.

The School had 30 attendees, with 10 of them joining us from abroad. The organisers, Carlos Penedo and Paolo Annibale, would like to thank those colleagues from the School (Graham Bruce, John Danial, Andrea Di Falco, Juan Varela), who helped run the practical modules, as well as the PhD students and PostDocs that engaged in supporting the practical demonstrations and contributed to the success of this year event.
