Invitation to the Physics and Astronomy Entrants’ Event – Tuesday 6 September 2022
All entrant students in Physics and Astronomy are invited to join us for our main social event of Orientation Week. We aim to use this to help entrant students meet each other, to allow them to meet with some returning students and staff, and to see and hear something of what happens in the School. This event is on the Tuesday afternoon, starting at 3 pm, in lecture theatre B in the School of Physics and Astronomy (J F Allen building). It will run to around 5.15 pm. The event shows in the Orientation App. It is OK if you need to arrive late or leave early, or pop out for your advising appointment, etc. The event is run as a collaboration amongst staff and returning students.
We’ll start off with a couple of fun quizzes. We will gather participants into groups to answer a variety of quiz questions, some associated with the School and physics, and some not, and all informal. Some established students will be part of the event too, and there will be a chance to hear about the student-run astronomy and physics and engineering societies. Shortly after 4 pm we will have an informal reception in the main concourse of the building, where again you may meet other entrant students, established students, and staff. After that from around 4.40 pm we will have a chance to see/hear about some of our research, and take a tour around some parts of the building that you will using in the coming weeks and months.
We look forward to the possibility of seeing you there and we hope that you enjoy the event and find it useful.
