Biography
I was born in Montevideo in 1956 and continued my education in the UK, gaining a BA in Linguistics and Spanish at Nottingham University (1st Class, 1985), and a PhD at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (1990), supervised by Steven Boldy. I spent my whole academic career (1989-2022) in the Spanish Department at St Andrews, teaching language and literature from Spain and Latin America at all levels. My main research has been on the literature and culture of Uruguay.
