Research areas

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the National Treatment Centre, Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, with a specialist interest in complex knee surgery. Alongside my clinical practice, I am a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine at the University of St Andrews.

My medical degree was completed at the University of Manchester, followed by surgical training in the North-West of England and Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Edinburgh. Following CCT, further fellowship training in sports knee surgery and revision lower limb arthroplasty took me to centres of excellence in Edinburgh, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2018, I was selected for the prestigious ABC Travelling Fellowship to North America.

From 2017 to 2025, I served as Associate Postgraduate Dean (Quality) with NHS Education for Scotland. I also hold an MD in Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of St Andrews, where my doctoral research examined outcomes and survival following total knee replacement.

My current research interests include using routinely collected health data to improve outcomes in lower limb arthroplasty, rapid diagnosis of prosthetic joint infection, management of bone loss in revision knee surgery, and advancing both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
