Biography

Dr Imoesi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with a Second Class (Hons) Upper Division from Ambrose Alli University, Edo State, Nigeria. Due to his passion for academia, he moved to England to study for a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Molecular Biology with a Distinction from the University of Hertfordshire. Subsequently, he moved back to Nigeria, and was employed at Samuel Adegboyega University, Edo State, as Assistant Lecturer in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences. And while at the university, he was the Assistant Head of Biochemistry Unit - Department of Chemical Sciences, Head Biochemistry Curriculum Review Committee and Head of the University Social Media Activities. In 2016, he moved back to the United Kingdom on a University of Aberdeen Elphinstone PhD Scholarship, to study for a degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Sciences - Translational Neuroscience and a subspecialty in Molecular Neuroscience. His PhD thesis was on "The Action of Vitamin A and Retinoic Acid on Hypothalamic Driven Homeostasis." Where for the first time he was able to demonstrate the hypothalamus a region of the brain is responsible vitamin A homeostasis. 

Following the completion of his PhD, he was employed as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Medical Sciences, School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition, University of Aberdeen and TauRx Pharmaceutical Ltd. His research was in neurodegenerative diseases, specifically, Alzheimer's disease looking at the role of glutamate release in tau transgenic mouse model with AD and frontotemporal dementia pathology. 

In mid 2023, Dr Imoesi joined the School of Medicine, University of St Andrews as Associate Lecturer in Cellular and Molecular Pathophysiology were he delivers teaching in BSc Medicine and ScotGEM programme. 

Dr Imoesi is a member of several societies, the British Neuroscience Association, British Society for Neuroendocrinology etc. He is an Associate Fellow of the Advance Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).

Dr Imoesi has clocked over 100 hours of media appeareance across many media outlet in Africa, such as CNBCAfrica, ChannelsTV, African Independent Television, News Central Africa TV etc and written for several Newspaper tabloids.
