Special Lecture on James Clark Maxwell

Professor Malcolm Longair, CBE, FRS, FRSE, will receive an Honorary Degree at the graduation ceremony on the afternoon of on Friday 23rd June. Professor Longair, an alumnus of St Andrews, is an astrophysist and former Astronomer Royal for Scotland, with over 300 papers and a dozen books to his name. He has won numerous honours and prizes, and is a member of many major international committees. He is well-know for his public promotion of science. As former Head of the Cavendish Physics Laboratory in Cambridge, he has a particular interest in its Scottish founder, James Clark Maxwell. He will give Special Lecture ‘Maxwell and the Mechanical Origins of Maxwell’s Equations’ at 10.30am on Friday 23rd June in Physics Lecture Theatre A to which all are welcome.
