Building a market for sustainability

29 July 2020

Dr Philip Roscoe of the School of Management was an invited speaker at a virtual seminar exploring the concept of building a market for exchange traded derivatives in recyclables – a financial market inspired solution to many practical problems facing global recycling.

Dr Roscoe shared insights from his research into financial markets with an online audience comprising industry representatives, regulators, and academics from across the USA. His talk was titled 'What makes a market? Understanding the social connections that underpin markets'.

The seminar also featured talks from Commissioner Rostin Behnam, of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and industry professionals with experience in building exchanges and operating derivatives and risk management.

The event was organised by academics from the Rowan University School of Business in New Jersey, and sponsored by the New Jersey Recycling Enhancement Act Grant Program and the Rowan Centre for Responsible Leadership. Dr Roscoe's invitation follows the international success of his ongoing podcast How to Build a Stock Exchange: Making Finance Fit for the Future.
