Applications from partner institutions
Students from other universities who are looking to apply for a Laidlaw scholarship that includes an element of research, leadership development, or both at the University of St Andrews, must:
- apply for a Laidlaw scholarship at their own institution
- follow the local requirements and application schedule on the Laidlaw scholarship website of their own institution
Finding a St Andrews-based project
There are two ways to find a St Andrews-based project:
- Self-defined projects
- Pre-defined projects open to international applicants
Self-defined projects
If you have an idea of the kind of project you would like to undertake, you can search the staff profiles on each of the School websites and directly contact a member of staff to see if they would be interested in supervising you for this project. If your initial contact progresses further, and the academic agrees to potentially be your supervisor, please copy in the St Andrews Laidlaw team at laidlaw@st-andrews.ac.uk so that we are aware of the potential partnership.
The rest of the application process will happen at your home institution and, if you are successful in becoming a Laidlaw scholar, you will be included in any St Andrews scholar activities during the summer while you are in Scotland.
Pre-defined projects open to international applicants
University of St Andrews academics have come up with pre-defined projects that they would be interested in supervising. For some of these projects, supervisors have indicated that, in addition to supervising St Andrews Scholars, they would also be happy to supervise scholars from any other university within the Laidlaw Network. A list of these projects can be found below. You will need to contact the project supervisor to discuss the possibility of applying to work on the project with them. Once they have agreed you would follow your own institution’s application process.
Submitting an application
Please contact your local Laidlaw scholars team for dates and details of the application process at your institution.
