Information and Digital Skills Teaching and Training
The Information and Digital Skills Teaching and Training service supports students and teaching staff in developing essential research, digital, and information literacy skills. Through tailored sessions and expert guidance, users gain confidence in navigating library resources, managing data, and using information ethically.
What we will do:
- We will provide tailored teaching sessions to help you develop skills in finding, evaluating, and using information effectively.
- We will support you in using digital library resources and building your digital capabilities.
- We will guide you on the ethical use of information, including copyright, open-access publishing, and data management.
- We will provide inductions and workshops for undergraduate, postgraduate taught (PGT), postgraduate research (PGR) students, and staff.
- We will contribute to the GRADskills programme and offer 1-to-1 appointments for PGR students who need personalised support.
- We will provide reference management support which includes digital sources, archival newspaper databases and reference management software.
How this will be delivered:
- We will deliver sessions by Academic Liaison Librarians, either independently or in collaboration with academic staff.
- We will work with academic staff to schedule sessions during module hours or at agreed times.
- We will deliver sessions in person or online via Microsoft Teams, with pre-recordings available on request in line with the University’s Lecture Capture Policy.
- We will schedule orientation sessions in Semesters 1 and 2, with details available through the Orientation app and Moodle.
- We will schedule school-specific sessions for PGT or PGR students requested by Academic staff.
- We will customise each session to suit your level of study and subject area, typically lasting 1–2 hours.
Important information:
- Schools should email library@st-andrews.ac.uk with teaching requests at least 4 weeks before the start of each semester.
- For new programmes, library input should be discussed during the design phase, before submitting the business case.
- Requests are subject to staff availability.
- Where timetables clash, priority is given based on the order of receipt of the request.
- There is no cost for teaching provided by the Academic Liaison Team.
Room bookings:
- A small teaching room (capacity: 12) is available in the Main Library.
- For larger groups, Schools must book suitable rooms via Timetabling.
- PC classrooms are preferred for hands-on sessions. If unavailable, students should bring their own devices.
