Art displayed across University estate

We will enhance the cultural experience across the University by making artworks from the University Collections accessible in a range of spaces such as College Gate or suitable public areas across the estate (e.g. public spaces in Halls of Residence).

What we will do:

We will provide support by advising on suitable spaces for display, suggesting appropriate original works or reproductions, and supervising installations where required. We will assess environmental conditions and collaborate with Estates to ensure safety and compliance. Once installed, original works will be monitored and cared for in line with Museums Accreditation standards.

Reproductions do not require supervision from University Collections but must be coordinated directly with Estates by the applicant.

How this will be delivered:

  • We will evaluate requests sent to unicolls@st-andrews.ac.uk for new displays or updates to existing ones on a case-by-case basis.
  • We will assess environmental conditions in a University space to determine suitability for artwork display within two weeks
  • We will suggest original works or reproductions based on user preferences, availability and suitability within two weeks.
  • We will liaise with Estates to ensure health and safety compliance.
  • We will liaise with Print and Design for printing and framing as required.
  • We will pack and transport artworks.
  • We will supervise the installation of original artworks within three weeks of handover from Estates, or during scheduled exhibition changeovers (typically within six to eight weeks)
  • We will provide high quality digital files for reproductions, including arranging new photography if needed (prioritised alongside existing commitments).
  • We will continuously monitor and conserve original artworks on display.
  • We will rest artworks from public display in line with Museums accreditation standards for collections care.

Important information:
