From the Black Sea to the North Sea: A Workshop in Stop-motion Animation with Film Screening
On 18 November 2025, a group of students and researchers joined the workshop From the Black Sea to the North Sea hosted by the Centre for Arts and Politics and the Quiet Centre. The two-part workshop was dedicated to exploring the method of stop-motion animation.
At first, the group visited Castle Sands to collect materials and experience the seaside to inspire personal memories of the participants, which informed their storytelling.
The second part took place in the Learning Loft of the Wardlaw Museum, and was dedicated to experimentation, script writing, and reflecting on the meaning of the seafront in the life of St Andrews and its inhabitants. The stories ranged from science fiction to reflections on personal memories, experiences of forced displacement, lost landscapes, and more.
The edited films are forthcoming on the page of the Centre for Arts and Politics.
