Research areas

My research is centred upon the history and culture of medieval Armenia between 400 and 1100 CE, analysing and exploiting literary, epigraphic and architectural sources as well as exploring Persian, Byzantine and Islamic perspectives and contexts. I have also published on 16th and 17th century Armenian manuscript illumination.
