Anna Floris joined the School in 2026, after being awarded a British Academy International Fellowship. Previously, she was a Research Fellow in Legal History at the University of Palermo. She holds a Master’s Degree in Law and a PhD in European and Comparative Legal Studies from the University of Trento.
Her research broadly focuses on the development of the ius commune and its impact on the legal and political practice of medieval and early modern Europe. Her monograph, Le Questioni della Carta de Logu, represents the first modern edition of a collection of quaestiones written in the Sardinian vernacular and appended to the famous compilation of local law, the Carta de Logu. She argues that this fifteenth-century source, which draws extensively on the Corpus Iuris Civilis and ius commune scholarship, constitutes an unprecedented example of an interpretive apparatus for local law composed in the vernacular rather than in Latin.
Her current research, supported by a British Academy International Fellowship, extends this work comparatively by examining the influence of ius commune scholarship on judicial practice across the Crown of Aragon, with a particular focus on Sardinia, Sicily and Majorca in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
