Student support
In 2024-2025, the University's Money Advice team received 824 applications for financial assistance from students struggling to cover their basic costs, even when working part time. The team supports students to reach their full potential without worrying about how to meet the costs of living and studying.
This figure represents the continued unprecedented disruption and uncertainty faced by students today. Students reported difficulties meeting ever-increasing rent payments, as well as grocery and utility bills. Other factors included changes in circumstances, such as illness or loss of parental support, which led students to worry that they may need to abandon their studies.
Donations to the Student Support Fund provided a vital supplement to University of St Andrews and discretionary funding, enabling the awarding of almost £712,000 in discretionary support in 2024-2025. A total of 802 individual awards were made to undergraduate and postgraduate students, ranging in value from £50, for students experiencing one-off, short-term hardship, to £3,000, for those with substantial longer-term need.
Those students supported by the Fund will cross the stage at the Younger Hall and graduate from St Andrews: a milestone they could not have reached without our donors.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
