Processes to Regulate Healthcare Professionals, is the second of a four-book series titled Principles and Processes for Regulating Healthcare Professionals. Predominantly about the practical aspect of regulating healthcare professionals it leads of by investigating how competences are acquired and assessed. It covers topics such as practice-based learning and supervision.

Chapter 2 and 3 addresses the education and training of healthcare professionals both in the UK and internationally. Next there is a detailed exploration of registers and registration, followed by a chapter on the regulation of educators, managers and researchers. The issues of regulation beyond entry to practice in terms of specialised practice, extended scope of practice and advanced practice are then investigated.

Chapter seven concentrates on continuing competence by exploring its constituent parts. These include activities to ensure continuing competence, evidencing and recording continuing competence, failing continuing competence, sanctions and appeals. It also explores the justification, benefits and resource requirements for continuing competence. It the focuses on patient outcomes and profiling. The subjects of chapters eight and nine are return to practice and students.

The penultimate chapter focuses on professionals, professions, professionalism and professional associations. It explores cooperation, collaboration and rivalrous competition between professions, the relationship between regulators and professional associations and the future of professionals and professionalism Lastly, although the four-book series is predominantly about professionals, the chapter reviews occupations and healthcare assistants.
