This is the lighthearted tale of an orthopaedic surgeon stumbling down the strange alley-ways of the intersection of medicine and the law. As orthopaedic surgeons look after trauma cases, inevitably they become involved with ‘The Law’ as someone has to tell the judge and jury what the injuries were and the likely long term consequences. This naturally involves a dive into arcane subjects like pain, which are poorly described and poorly understood both by lawyers and judges and many doctors.

Courtroom battles, to which the author was exposed more than 200 times, are often hilarious as are the numerous insurance scams. Class action lawsuits usually involve staggering amounts of money so attract highly skilled lawyers.

The story starts in Scotland then winds its way through numerous courts in Canada and the US. As well as an amusing tale, this book will be instructive to those exposed to the law for the first time as the blindfold of Justice sometimes slips, and outcomes are uncertain.
