Biography

Shona Russell is a Senior Lecturer in Governance, Accountability and Sustainability at the University of St Andrews Business School and Co-Director of the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR). Her research examines the role of accounting in shaping sustainability transformations and ecological restoration. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from accounting, management, and sustainability studies, she explores how accounting practices influence environmental governance, biodiversity conservation, and nature restoration initiatives. Her work seeks to advance critical and ecologically informed approaches to accounting, with a particular focus on alternative forms of valuation, accountability, and decision-making that can support more just and sustainable social–ecological futures.

 She currently serves on the editorial boards of Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Accounting Forum, Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Social and Environmental Accountability Journal.
