Teaching

Course leader for the Sustainable Aquaculture program - an online graduate program (PGCert; PGDip; MSc) focusing on the promotiona dn development of sustainability in aquaculture.

Research areas

Research interests in host-pathogen interactions in fish particularly in relation to gill and cardiac diseases.  Studying how gills respond and remodel in response to insult from pathogens and how hearts remodel with respct to physiological challenges and pathogen interactions.  Research models of interest include amoebic gill disease, jellyfish, toxic and harmful algae.

Understanding the impact of pathogens and environmental challenges affect cardio-respiratory physiolgical performance in fishes and their adaptations to insults.

Practical application of approaches to control parasitic diseases in aquaculture through bath treatments, in feed treatment and other control measures.

Understanding and application of recirculating aquaculture systems technology for the rearing of fish for aquaculture and the development of new species aquaculture promoting species diversificcation and new commerical opportunities.
