Join us on 29 January for: Mughal Art in the Age of Company Raj: Locating the Past and Present in 19th Century Painting in Colonial India

This paper looks at the practice of painting Mughal subjects in the period during and after the demise of the Mughal house in north India. In this talk, I look at the ways in which the repackaging of Mughal painting on to ivory created a set of new narratives for linking European families with India’s Mughal past, while also creating a new pathway for linking the Mughal with emergent modernist ideologies.
