Senior Global Fellow Appointment.

Professor Sarah E. Fraser (Heidelberg University) is visiting the School of Art History from 12 September to 9 October 2025 as a Senior Global Fellow at the University of St Andrews. Professor Fraser is Chair Professor and Head of the Institute of East Asian Art History, Centre of Asian and Transcultural Studies, Heidelberg University, Germany. A distinguished scholar of Asian Arts, specialising in both traditional and modern periods, her expertise is wide-ranging, spanning medieval wall painting, photography, and digital art history.

Her publications include the award-winning Performing the Visual: The Practice of Buddhist Wall Painting in China and Central Asia, 618‐960 (Stanford University Press). She has also received numerous grants and has extensive experience facilitating international research teams, including serving as the Director of “Merit, Opulence and the Buddhist Network of Wealth” (Henry Lucy Foundation, 1998-2001), and “Ethnographic Eye” (Getty Foundation, 2014-2023).
