African reconnections
MoMA's online magazine post: notes on art in a global context has published an article by Kate Cowcher about Catherine Nankya Katonoko Gombe's Youth, a print in The Argyll Collection which, until 3 years ago, was unattributed and long-forgotten. Kate reconnected with Prof. Catherine Gombe through contacts at Makerere University, who suggested she might be in the artist. She is now in her 80s, and was amazed to learn that this print, which she hadn't seen since the mid-1960s, had ended up in Scotland. This short article was commissioned for MoMA, and is the first international publication of Prof. Gombe's work. It is particularly exciting to see an artwork from the Argyll Collection spotlighted in a publication by the Museum of Modern Art.
