EDI governance structure

We work with a range of committees and groups across the University to support the delivery, monitoring and reporting of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) activities.

University EDI committee

The University EDI Committee supports progress towards the priorities of a Diverse St Andrews and ensures we meet our legal responsibilities for equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

The Committee meets three times a year and is convened by the Vice-Principal (People and Diversity). Members include senior leaders from across the University with representation from:

  • Principal’s Office
  • EDI team
  • Human Resources
  • Estates
  • Students' Association

The Vice-Principal (People and Diversity) may escalate relevant issues to the People and Diversity Assurance Group, which reports to University Court.

Several delivery and monitoring groups report directly to the University EDI Committee. These currently include the Race Equality Charter Monitoring and Implementation Team and the Athena Swan Implementation Group. Task and finish groups may also be established as needed.

Standing committees such as Equally Safe, the Suicide Intervention and Prevention Groups and the Widening and Supporting Access and Participation Working Group may also feed into the University EDI Committee.

University equality forum

The University Equality Forum supports communication and collaboration across Schools, professional services units and the wider University to create a joined-up approach to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

The forum comprises representatives from key areas across the University, including:

  • EDI team
  • Student Services
  • Student Experience and Education
  • Corporate Communications
  • Chaplaincy
  • Students' Association

Consultation and engagement

In addition to formal committees and groups, we continue to consult and engage with EDI and wellbeing networks, staff networks and student societies.
