NMR goes Green
Fanny Tran is a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Professor Nick Westwood. She recently published a paper in Green Chemistry (DOI: 10.1039/C4GC01012D) describing the use of a fast 2D NMR method to characterise and analyse lignin, a complex biopolymer. This work demonstrates that lignin analysis is not limited to research environments with >600MHz NMR machines. The use of the developed protocol to study the selective modification of the beta-beta linkage in Kraft lignin was also reported. This work was presented by Fanny at the Lignin2014: Biosynthesis and utilization, which took place in Umea, Sweden in September 2014.
