The Summer Academic Experience Courses (SAEC) are open to students who are between 16 and 18 years old when they arrive in St Andrews.
Once you have received a conditional offer, you have four weeks to upload your academic transcript and academic reference through the applicant portal.
Applicants for the Diverse Intelligences course will be asked to submit a separate 500-word essay explaining why they want to be part of this course.
You must also pay a deposit of £500 within two weeks, or by Thursday 1 April 2027, whichever is sooner.
The remaining balance of fees, which is £6,450, must be paid by Thursday 1 April 2027. If fees are not paid in time your offer may be withdrawn.
Once you have accepted your offer of a place, you have 14 days in which you can withdraw without penalty.
There will be no refund of the deposit irrespective of circumstances. Parents are strongly advised to obtain insurance to cover illness or other unforeseen eventualities. Fees may be refunded at the discretion of the Extension Courses Manager.
Fees cover transport to and from Edinburgh Airport or Glasgow Airport (not Glasgow Prestwick Airport) on the official course start date of Saturday 24 July 2027 and end date of Saturday 14 August 2027, tuition, accommodation, full board, use of sports facilities, and all planned excursions and social events indicated in the programme.
The Director of Extension Courses reserves the right to dismiss any student whose conduct is deemed unacceptable according to the University’s code of conduct or the SAEC Mutual Responsibilities Agreement (MRA) (PDF) that the University, the participating student and the student’s parent or guardian will sign before attendance on the SAEC. Links to the Mutual Responsibilities Agreement will be sent to the applicant in due course.
Although every effort will be made to adhere to the advertised details of the SAEC, the University of St Andrews reserves the right to modify any aspect of the SAEC as necessary.
