These workshops will help you prepare for studying by making sure you have the skills you need to make the most of your studies. They are also a great way to meet your fellow students on the programme.
Starting on Tuesday 13 January, these sessions will support you through the academic reading, researching and writing processes, guiding you towards completing your first sample piece of work. With a mixture of self-directed study and live online, hybrid or in-person tutorials, we will help you make the best start on your St Andrews journey.
The expected dates for the Study Skills workshops for 2026 Semester 2 are:
- Tuesday 13 January, 6pm to 8pm: Introduction to the University (online or in-person)
- Wednesday 14 January, 6pm to 8pm: IT basics workshop where we'll discuss Microsoft Teams, email and Word documents (in-person only)
- Tuesday 20 January, 6pm to 8pm: How to build a learner
- Saturday 24 January, 10am to 3pm: Library tour, research task and essay writing workshop (in-person only)

Tuition fees
Current tuition fees for Scotland and the EU are:
- £303 per 20-credit module
- £455 for a 30-credit module
It is your responsibility to ensure that arrangement for payment of this fee is made before matriculation each year, either by SAAS, scholarship or a personal payment plan.
Should you withdraw from a module after week 4 of teaching, you will be liable for the full fee for that module.
Payment information is available through the University student finance webpage.
SAAS part-time fee grant
If your personal earned or pension income is under £25,000 and you are taking at least 30 credits over the academic year, you can apply for the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) part-time fee grant.
If you wish to apply for a part-yime fee grant, you can do so by creating an account with SAAS and applying to them directly. We recommend that you complete your SAAS application once you are certain about the number of credits that you plan to study in the academic year.
Further information about this process is available on the SAAS webpage.
Please note that the closing date for part-time fee grant applications from learners studying part-time between 1 September 2025 and 31 March 2026 is 31 March 2026.
You are required to apply for a new part-time fee grant for each academic year of study, and we recommend you do this once you have completed your module choices each year during the summer months.
Staff concession
If you are a member of staff at the University, you may be eligible for the staff concession on fees. For further information, contact the fees and funding team at fees@st-andrews.ac.uk. You can also apply for a part-time fee grant to cover the staff concession, if eligible for that scheme.
Personal payment plan
If you are not eligible for the SAAS part-time fee grant, then you will need to arrange to pay your fees. You can pay when you come to matriculate in September or January. You can also pay prior to matriculation, by debit or credit card, through online matriculation when it opens.
You can choose to set up an instalment plan to pay the fee through your credit or debit card. The instalment plan should be set up with a member of the Finance team on the day you come to matriculate. Please be aware that, if any of the instalments fail, the University may levy a late payment charge of 3% of the outstanding balance.
For additional information, please review our guidance on paying your tuition fees.

Scholarships are available for students who are studying part-time either during the day or in the evening.
If you are starting in January, there are two possible scholarships that you can apply for:
- The part-time study scholarship: offers up to £100 per module to help with the costs associated with being a student, such as books and travel. Students can apply for the part-time study scholarship even if they are not eligible for SAAS funding.
- The part-time fees scholarship: if you are studying 20 credits (one module) in January, and your personal income is less than £25,000, you can apply for this scholarship to cover your tuition fees. You would otherwise be eligible for the SAAS part-time fee grant, but you won't qualify for SAAS funding in your first semester. This is because SAAS requires you to be studying a minimum of 30 credits per academic year (between September and May).
Please expect an email from the Lifelong Learning team with more information about the part-time study scholarships including eligibility criteria, how to apply and the application deadline. The application deadline for these scholarships will likely be in early February.

Online Matriculation
Before the start of term, you should ensure that you have completed all elements of Online Matriculation. The online matriculation facility is accessed through MySaint.
You will be sent access details to your University email address at the beginning of January regarding this process.
Matriculation event
As a new student, you must attend an ID check and academic advising before the start of the semester (Monday 26 January 2026).
You can attend both your ID check and your advising appointment at University Main Library in St Andrews on Saturday 24 January 2026, after the Study Skills workshop. These appointments are organised for the same day so you will only need to visit St Andrews once to get started.
If you’re not able to attend an ID check and advising appointment on Saturday 24 January 2026, please email lifelonglearning@st-andrews.ac.uk to let us know. There are some alternative options for both appointments that can be organised for you.
You must also ensure:
- You have completed the personal details task in MySaint online matriculation prior to your ID check.
- You have the required documents for your ID check. For most students, this will be either your passport or both your birth certificate and proof of your national insurance number.
Academic advising
In-person advising meetings will be available on Saturday 24 January 2026 at the University Library after the Study Skills workshop. Your advising meeting is when you confirm your modules for the semester ahead and you can discuss the different options.
The Lifelong Learning team will send you more information about booking your appointment.
Failure to matriculate
All elements of matriculation must be completed by the specified deadline to avoid your studies being terminated.
For full details of the academic calendar, please look at the semester dates.
