The Rusacks is located within easy walking distance of most University buildings, shops and restaurants in St Andrews, as well as the Old Course.

The two nearest international airports are Edinburgh (approximately 1.5 hours by car) and Glasgow (approximately 2.5 hours by car). The University will make every effort to collect and return all conference attendees to these airports, free of charge.

For information on train travel, please see the National Rail website. The nearest train station to St Andrews is Leuchars. Upon arrival, there are taxis waiting on the other side of the footbridge. There are also regular buses into St Andrews approximately every 15 minutes.

As neither the day before the conference (Wednesday) nor the day after the conference (Saturday) form part of the programme of events, counsellors may arrange to arrive and leave at any time on those dates. However, please be aware of hotel check-in and check-out times on those dates:

• Check in: 3pm onwards (earlier check-in is possible; however, the hotel cannot guarantee the room will be ready)
• Check out: 11am

Please come prepared for winter weather. The average temperature in March is around 6°C (43°F). However, it is possible to have four seasons in one day, so please bring some warmer clothes as well as lighter ones just in case, as well as outerwear that is both wind- and rain-proof. There will also be a certain amount of walking, so comfortable shoes would be advisable.

Where to eat

St Andrews boasts a huge range of eating establishments, from pizza and pasta to fish and chips, and other local fine dining and casual fare. Almost every pub will offer lunch and evening meals consisting of traditional Scottish pub grub: burgers, meat pies and pasta, all served with lashings of chips.

Where to shop

Market Street and South Street both have numerous shops to explore, both larger chains and smaller local stores. Cross-streets like Bell Street, Church Street and Greyfriars Gardens are not to be missed either. Explore using our self-guided tour.
