Scotland Europa (SE) is a membership-based organisation that promotes Scotland’s interests across the institutions of the European Union and to the representatives of Europe’s regions and Members States. Membership brings together a wide range of Scottish organisations including many of Scotland’s universities, businesses, and local government. Scotland Europa has experienced staff based in both Scotland and Brussels, fostering strong links between Scotland and Europe, providing intelligence, policy analysis and strategic funding advice.
As a long-standing member of Scotland Europa, the University benefits from EU intelligence, interpretation and analysis, information and access to European research funding schemes, promotion of our research and enterprise to European audiences, and access to meeting and conference spaces at Scotland House, which is based in the European Quarter in Brussels and is also home to the Scottish Government EU Office and Scottish Development International.
What does Scotland Europa have to offer to the University of St Andrews?
- Scotland House, Brussels is available for us to host meetings and conferences, providing a European venue to enhance our visibility, support networking and partnerships, and enabling easier access to European institutions in Brussels. As an SE member, anyone in the institution can book conference or meeting space in Scotland House, as well as use it as a touchdown space in Brussels. If you would like to access this facility, reach out to us on globalnetworks@st-andrews.ac.uk
- SE are keen to showcase the University’s research news stories to their network members, particularly during key EU thematic weeks which attract significant attention in Brussels. If you would like your work to be spotlighted, reach out to us on globalnetworks@st-andrews.ac.uk
- As per SE’s latest update one of their new priority areas is the promotion of Scotland’s engagement with the Arctic. This means there is scope to spotlight some of our Arctic-related research in marine science, environmental change, geological exploration, climate justice and rural healthcare, as well as encourage UArctic network engagement internally.
- SE also provides access to EU intelligence, interpretation and analysis, which may be increasingly critical over the coming years. Any staff member interested can sign up for policy alerts and the Brussels Bulletin, contribute to position papers including EU consultation responses, and attend SE member meetings.
