Erasmus+

The UK has agreed to reassociate with the Erasmus+ programme from 2027, restoring opportunities for student and staff mobility across Europe.

What this means for St Andrews

The University of St Andrews has been awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), enabling us to participate in the Erasmus+ programme and apply for funding to support student and staff mobility with European partners. We intend to submit an application for Erasmus+ mobility funding for the 2027-2028 academic year. Funding allocations and award levels have not yet been confirmed, and participation will remain subject to the outcome of the University's funding application. The University will provide further information to students and staff as soon as funding decisions are announced.

The future of the Erasmus+ programme

The UK's re-association to Erasmus+ currently applies to 2027, the final year of the current Erasmus+ programme cycle (2021-2027). The European Commission, Member States and stakeholders are now developing the successor programme, which is expected to run from 2028 onwards. While Universities UK International and other sector bodies are actively contributing to discussions on the future programme, the UK's participation beyond 2027 has not yet been confirmed. We will continue to monitor developments and update this webpage as further information becomes available.

When updates will be available

We will update this webpage regularly as additional information becomes available from the UK Government, the British Council and the European Commission. Students considering study or work placements in Europe are encouraged to check this page periodically and attend relevant information sessions. Students who may be eligible for Erasmus+ funding will also receive updates directly by email.  An FAQ page for staff will be available shortly.
