Selection and Frequently Asked Questions
Study Abroad is a wonderful opportunity but may also be a challenging, and at times, difficult, experience. Selection is competitive, and we're looking for students who are independent, highly motivated, responsible and mature. We're also looking for students who will be good ambassadors for St Andrews, who will make the most of opportunities at the host institution and integrate with the host student community. Study Abroad is, above all, an academic experience, and often the best applications are those which also demonstrate particular interest in the academic opportunities available at a host institution.
The selection panel will assess your application on a variety of points including:
- Academic grades
- Knowledge and research of partner university
- Academic motivation
- Extracurricular activities
Please note that the selection panel will also consider any disciplinary action which you have been subject to while studying at St Andrews.
Should I refer to the partners I have chosen in my application?
Yes, you can refer to your top choices in your application form.
When will I hear if my application has been successful?
If you have applied for the St Andrews Abroad programme, you will be notified by the end of November if you have been shortlisted for interview.
If you have applied for a School Abroad or Modern Languages programme, we will contact you early in semester two regarding your application.
Will I receive feedback on my application?
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications, we are unable to provide feedback on individual applications.
