Yichi Zhang wins Rose Sidgwick award

2 September 2025

PhD Candidate Yichi Zhang has won the prestigious Rose Sidgwick award of the British Federation for Women Graduates in open competition.

Yichi's award-winning project investigates the emotional lives of the Chinese community in Kingston, Jamaica, with a particular focus on the intersections of transnational migration, racial dynamics, and urban space. By foregrounding 'minor feelings', her thesis contributes to contemporary affect and emotion studies, while also emphasising the ethical and creative importance of representing affectively 'unlikeable' or morally ambiguous subjects in urban and migration research.

Congratulations Yichi!
